69-70 mustang rear bumper bolts
« on: April 05, 2011, 11:13:24 AM »
I have a disagreement with one of my mustang vendors on what is the correct style bolt that mounts the rear bumper to the body on DEARBORN built cars. My vendor insist they use a separate bolt and washer type bolt and the OSBORN assy. manual shows this as well. I have removed many rear bumpers off these cars over the years and have found a bolt with the integral washer (some have a N stamped on the head). I don't remember ever removing a 69-70 bumper that has a separate bolt & washer and at least 1 of my cars has the original bumper that has never been removed and it has the integral bolt and washer. Any feedback on this would be appreciated.

Chris,

I believe you are speaking of the rear bumper bracket to body mounting bolt.  It's been many years since I have seen or removed one.  Often the large washer would stick to the body.  I believe I have seen it both ways.  The washer is rather large and I think there was a washer also built into the bolt head as well.  An expert will answer it shortly for us.
