Topic: Install front bumper first, or valence and pebble guard?

The only major exterior pieces left to install in the long resto of my '65 fastback is the front bumper and front valance, but I can't determine in what order to do it.  A couple You-Tube videos show the bumper being installed first, but in conversations with Mustang owners, the advice is all over the map suggesting valance first, bumper first, etc.  I sure don't want to install & adjust the bumper first and then have to pull it off and change the sequence.  Any and all suggestions of where to begin would be appreciated!  Thanks, Ron...

It works either way, each has it's advantages.  I prefer to install the front bumper first, but leave all the bolts loose.  Then install the front valence.  Get everything lined up and tighten down.

When in doubt, read the Mustang Assembly Manuals and follow what Ford did. The front bumper brackets went on first, then the bumper, then the lower valence. Ref 65 Mustang Body Assembly Manual (AM0006 pg 8 and 10). The pages show what goes on where and when, the item numbers are the assembly steps.

A word of caution; always be aware of the side bumper bracket.  If installing the front bumper for a trial fit or removing for whatever reason this little bugger will go right for your paint.  Brian

Maybe Ford used a strap or a fixture to pull the fenders in as the bumper was installed so as not to scratch the fenders.
