1967 Mustang Dash Ash Tray
« on: October 24, 2020, 01:30:52 PM »
I have a older chromed ash tray in my 1967 when I bought it. I see original Ford part was C7ZZ-6504821-A. This part is labeled in three places IA26813. It is not a new reproduction. I am guessing an old reproduction? It has very light pitting and has been used over the years, but in great shape compared to what I see on EBay. No rust. If it's a repro, I'll have to dump it and look for a correct one. If it's some kind of Ford accessory, maybe I can get away with sanding it, priming it and spraying it black charcoal metallic?

Does anyone know if it's a repro? Thanks.

My original ash tray also has IA26813 stamped on it, but was clearly a silver colored plating, not chrome.  Can you provide pictures of yours?

Here are some pictures. The good news is I guess that it is an original in great shape. The bad news is somebody chromed it. I guess if I scuff it, primer it and charcoal black metallic paint it, it should last.

Now that’s what I call bling!   I have plenty of spares that have typical pitted internals.  You could take one of my faces (which gets painted) and get it riveted to the inner part.  Get the inner part properly plated first.   It all depends on how accurate you want it in the end.

Thanks for the offer. Not sure that I want to go through re-riveting. I will probably just look for another with good internals. Do your extras  have badly rusted internals?
