69 console question
« on: August 16, 2020, 07:54:51 AM »
Picked up a 69 console out of a junkyard the other day and it has this adapter at the front on the driver's side.  Is this factory or owner modification? What is it for? Thanks in advance.

Not factory

What could it be for? Got no idea. Have not seen a mount like that, that I recall. Pretty far forward for a CB mic mount as that would be pretty far under the dash

I wonder if it was an aftermarket alarm switch?
Who knows what was attached to those plastic screw bosses.

Next question (which might also be obvious to some...but not me) is in regards to the insert.

This appears to be the standard camera case black automatic transmission insert.  But there was at some point something inserted in the insert (for lack of a better term) as you can see from the outline on the paint and the leftover mounting studs.

Was this a JC Whitney type add on?  Any ideas? I looked through pics (Mustang and Cougar) and nothing jumps out to me.

Or is the case where someone ripped off a deluxe wood grain top piece?

As always, thanks.

Found some more pics. Looks like 6 of the 7 holes for deluxe insert.  Seventh hole an owner modification maybe along the same lines as the first post.  10-4 good buddy...crash the gate doing 98.

Next question is regarding the lower rear corner, pass side.  See pic.  Is this corner busted off or is this correct as is?  The driver's side is squared off.  Thanks, John

Yes, one of the wood grain inserts available in 1969. Straight grain or burl wood (Cougar XR7)

New related question regarding the top.  I picked up a used top/insert for a four speed, wood grain top.  But it has no seat belt holes.

Looking at the attached picture, is the wood grain version incorrect for a Mustang - i.e. is this a cougar part?

What determined seat belt holes if some had them and others did not?  Is it a 69/70 thing?

Thanks

Now the bracket question.  In a lot of console parts this bracket was included.  Is this used for a 69-70 console?  I don't have the assembly manuals for these years.  The MPC diagram does not show it.

Thanks

The no seat belt holder is a 1970 version. The metal bracket should line up with the two holes in the top front of the console. Its held in place with a pair of Phillips head screws.
Accurate looking but not a Concours Restoration/build. See my build photo gallery at 69GT350 Hertz Build

Jeff just started a new thread on consoles. You might want to look at that for the proper location of that bracket.
