Correct Fan Setup
« on: January 25, 2011, 10:25:07 AM »
Does any one have pics or can describe the correct setup (fan, spacer, clutch, fan spacer bolts, shroud, etc) of a 65 fastback built 10/29/64 at SJ with the 289, power steering, and AC?  I have the radiator out of the car right now and want to make sure I have the correct fan, spacer, spacer bolts, etc before I reinstall the radiator.  I think the fan bolts currently are mismatched and want to get them all the same.  I noticed on Brant's blog they have a little flag, but was that only on the hi-po's?

Do you have an Eaton PS Pump or Ford Pump?  If Eaton, is the reservoir remote-mounted on the fender apron?

I am not sure what the car had originally.  Right now it has the ford power steering pump with the angled neck.  I've seen some cars with the eaton power steering pump but not the one with the remote reservoir even though they have AC...

I have some pictures of my 66 with the accurate setup for air and Ford angle neck p/s with the fan and viscous clutch.
If you are shooting for correctness for YOUR car, I suggest Bob Mannel's book.  If you think MY pic's will help you, let me know and I'll post 'em.

If you A/C unit was dealer-installed, I think it will have a fixed fan/spacer.  If factory installed, it will have a fan/viscous clutch.
If the radiator has been changed from 2 to 3 row core, etc., that may play into the equation too.

Not sure if the dealer installed it or it came from the factory.  Maybe someone knows how one can tell what one should look for to tell if it came from the factory or the dealer installed it.  Pics would be helpful.  I'm a visual person  ;)

OK ... here's some pics.  I think the factory setup for your 10/64 car is different than this.
You really need the Mannel Book to know the right way.

LOL, figure since i have the radiator out I better check and make sure the fan and everything else is correct since I have room to work in there for a change.  My bolts that hold the fan on don't have the same head...only want to do this once...

I'm pretty sure mine has the "S."  I looked at several so I can't remember.
