trunk mat for Feb/68 Shelby convertible
« on: August 10, 2020, 07:55:05 PM »
Used the search feature on website to answer my question on what style of trunk mat should be in this Feb/68 Shelby convertible, not Burtex? Also did the mat go under the trunk divider board or just trimmed up to it? Just want to confirm this.  Thanks.

Not that we can't add more to the thread but did you find the Running Change thread for 68 NJ trunk mats when you searched the site?

Don't know that I've got any new ones since May when these were posted, but will check

The were a couple different materials used. The speckled burtex is correct. A felt style mat would probably also be acceptable.

I have seen the mats screwed down, but if I recall correctly that is more common on the 4spd KRs.

On a convertible, the mat was typically under the divider board, screwed down.

This car is 169XX-1424 and was stamped on Feb 02/68, the earlier cars were still Plaid and Felt and then switched to Speckle on later ones? That picture of the Highland green 1795XX is fairly close in serial number and it is Plaid. Ok on the mat getting screwed down from the divider board.

Also the bottom of the divider board, have seen the lip with the screws both ways, screws showing in trunk area and some with screws in the top well area. My 67 GTA has them in the top well area.

At the same plant and year?  Guessing your only comparing unrestored cars ;)

With you other car your comparing different year and plant  and in turn different plant lay out and workers

Your right Jeff, my car 67 and San Jose plant. So for the Shelby they should be showing inside the trunk area. Thoughts on mat?

I don’t think anyone reproduces the felt style mat that I have found.

First choice on feb vert would be speckled butted. Felt occasionally used but tends to be on earlier fastbacks and late verts. Majority of boards screwed over mats would be later 4 speeds

Because of the staggered shock bracing across trunk floor being different?
