should radiator be straight up an down?
« on: July 30, 2020, 08:32:47 PM »
I just put a new radiator on the new radiator support and the radiator is not straight up and down. The radiator leans in toward the motor at the top.  The area of the radiator support outside of the radiator opening is straight up and down but the area in side is not. I assume that I can bend some of the sheet metal if necessary. does it matter? Also how much space should there be between the fan blade and the radiator.

Never noticed before but yes my radiator is tilted.  Leading edge of the fan is 5/8" from the core face at the top.  The fans lower leading edge is 1" from the core face.  Brian

Guessing this is a repro radiator?  I've seen this before.  To fix, requires the side straps where they attach to the top be resoldered/repositioned.  A local radiator shop can do this, will require repainting when done.

Possible to DIY, will need a torch to melt the solder.

I' am sure Charles is right but it seems miss locating the straps would take some extra effort ?  Brian

The repro's aren't made as nice... I've had a couple with the straps misaligned.
