« on: January 09, 2011, 02:49:41 PM »
A friend of mine asked me about the color stripes on the coil springs for a 68 fastback he is restoring.
could You tell me what color stripes should be correct on the following fastback (i'll post the marti report - it should imply all necessary information):

Thanks!
Paul

This is not an easy question to answer. Trust me it takes lots of research to come up with the correct colors for the stripes. Why don't you start with some physical data on the springs you pulled out. Need the height of the uncompressed spring, wire diameter and coil count. Did you find any marks on the springs when you pulled them out?

Love the combination of a presidential blue s code fastback. Had one I bought back to the Midwest from Sacramento long ago. That car was loaded with options. Wish I had that one back today.

Looks like  1 Gold & 1 Yellow -  would be my best guess based on buildsheets and original of cars equipped like yours from the same time period - or at least close ;)

68 S code if your looking to use the spring height to identify front springs using one of the Master Parts Catalogs (MPC) it may be difficult since we understand from Ford engineers that the heights listed there may be a compressed height at a certain poundage.

@68 S code: unfortunately i don't have further information about the coils :-\ bacause it's not my car, i'm just asking for a friend who is restoring it.  If it was my car, i already would have inspected every smallest detail on the coils  ;)

@Jeff: Thank you very much for the information!   :D
My friend will be very happy about this info!  ;)
