Modern paint code
« on: July 02, 2020, 05:27:23 PM »
Rear  Applique  color
I was wondering if  anyone had  a modern  paint  code for the rear applique
I have 2 older paint  codes
PPG/DITZLER 326000,DARK GRAY POLY
DARK GRAY METALLIC, CODE5
ARGO 1988,
the paint  shop I deal with  can't  cross reference  these codes, any suggestions where to go from here?

First thing, and maybe part of your problem, is that you need to get the Code correct. It is "AR60 1988", not ARGO 1988. Next, you will note that it is "AR", which stands for Lacquer paint. I believe that Ford used the Lacquer, not rubbed out or polished, so it would stand out from the glossy Acrylic Enamel finish that the cars were painted. As it is very hard to find someone that still does lacquer, you will probably have to settle for Acrylic Enamel. I gave my paint jobber the Ford Code,m and he mixed it right up. He then sold me a small can of dull coat to mix with it to remove the gloss.

If you don't want to go that route. SEM makes a spray paint that is very close to the original, just not quite as much metallic in it, and a little darker (SEM Dark Titanium Metallic, Part # 39263).

I have attached a couple of pictures showing the two colors. Note that on the sample based on the Ford Code, I just brushed it on, not wanting to mix and waste my high dollar pint of original.

Hope this helps.

Also that paint code is not for the lower back panel grille, technically. It is for the rear of the car within the boundaries of the bright trim on the deck lid and quarter panel extensions of the top and sides, and the bumper on the bottom.  If the car had the two tone paint option plus the lower back panel grilles, the grilles would also be gray.  There are other posts with pictures that you can search for.

Thanks  for the help,I  did as much  research as I  could  find in the information given  in this site, but was not aware  the the painted  section  at the rear  was a different  color  than the grey aluminum finned pieces . what would  be that paint  code for the aluminum piece
My goal  is to have the way it originally have been done by Ford ,with  the 2 paint  codes  and a rear applique

First  thank you for the effort  you put into  your  research on the rear ribbed  panel, I have  read it several times  trying to  get it all straight  in my head,I re read your  post  to me and now  I see my answer
If you  ordered  rear  panel  painted, and ordered  the ribbed  panel  as well, it would all be the same color ,grey,if you ordered a single  color  on your car with  the ribbed panel  it would be  body  color
I am also  assuming  that  any attaching  hard ware is not available and you find what  looks  the closest to original,  btw interesting hobby we got ourselves in  to
