1967 Shelby GT Rocker Stripes
« on: May 31, 2020, 10:49:38 PM »
Was there a production change regarding GT stripes in 1967? I only see one type listed in Shelby Registry installation in back of book, but I have seen many pictures of two kinds. I pulled two random pics off of internet to show the difference.

Only one style was used in 67. Picture #1 is of a 68 style stripe. It is a common mistake . It is kind of a red flag to most Shelby enthusiests given that if the restorer is that clueless not to know the differance in the stripe styles what other details did they mess up on  . ;)

Very common mistake - likely influenced by magazines over the years and the internet.   ::)

With Le Mans stripes the most common and noticeable non-factory thing we see on 67's

The car looks naked and plain without the Le Mans stripes.  It looses it's teeth.  As for the side stripes, I think the centered application has more eye appeal than the 67' version which simply spaces a half inch from the fender line at the door.  However, it is distinguishing from the 68'.

Pic one has many Concours errors easily spotted in just a glance.
We could have a game to see how many we can spot in 10 seconds.

As for the LeMans stripe, I understand its appeal. Even some factory advertising of the period had it adorned with the LeMans stripe. But, what's concours wrong is concours wrong.

But hey. I'm the guy building a Lime Gold, no Lemans stripe with hubcap car -- with the correct spacing of the side stripe. And that just looks "right" in a sea of "modified" cars.

I also corrected the side stripes because the painter had F'd them up by not reading the copied instructions from the Shelby World Registry. They were put on centered.
Talk about a pain in the backside to get off. Hours of work. Getting them on straight is another hat trick when it comes to doing them laying on the floor on your side.
I got them done and they came out stunning. I used the old water and a few drops of Dawn soap trick with the included squeegee so I could move them as necessary.

Thanks. I did the water and soap trick with a level, blue tape and a grease pencil. Came out great. Not enough decal to get me 1/2" from door though on the "500". Only got about 3/8" as decal wasn't long enough. I had to just barely wrap decal around fender edge and that was that. Mine is a driver. Mostly original except for a looks good at 10' 1980 paint job. Still much electrical to do.

All decal lines line up 100%. Bump of decal in rear quarter is where door bottom rear edge doesn't shut fully.

I noted the same issue. It just made the roll around the back of the corner with 11/16 spacing.  The dilution in of Dawn soap and the spray bottle works great. The stripes just need to be squeegeed twice. Then you can peel them off after about 45 minutes.

IMHO adds allot to the overall look of the car.
