3 Bolt Starter Noses
« on: June 17, 2020, 04:56:11 PM »
I was trying to identify the starter nose that goes on an early BB.

Much to my surprise the 60-68 MPC lists some instances of the 200 CID starter as also fitting 65/66 BB Fords. The list shows  200/352/390/427/428.
Then later in 67 the MPC drops the 200 and just shows the 390/427/428.

OK. What changed?

Maybe in the second  (68 printing) example Ford choose not to carry both a 6 cylinder and an FE, basically dropping a specific application for the six cylinder. This would reduce inventory, cost and would just mean that six cylinder cars were get a FE starter at possibly a slightly higher price- what ever that was at the time. MPC and service replacement parts was  all about what would work and fit while consolidating were possible on parts for used cars.

Just a possibility IMHO
