66 Shelby Steel Wheel
« on: June 05, 2020, 08:07:30 PM »
I understand 65 Shelbys had a 15” Kelsey Hayes steel wheel and they switched to 14” in 66.  Were these standard Ford or also Kelsey?

Standard steel wheels were not the standard nor available from the factory on 66 Shelby's. The size of the tires as well as standard and optional wheels for your December 1965 built GT350 would have been 14"

Hi Jeff, thank you for your reply but sorry, I’m not following your response - maybe it’s my interpretation.

If I understand correctly, you’re saying Kelsey Hayes 14” wheels would be what I’m looking for?

My car was delivered with 10 spoke wheels but raced with steel wheels.  I’d like to know what I should look for if I’m looking for the steel wheels.

Sorry for my misunderstanding.

Taylor

If by steel wheels your thinking bare steel wheels (no hubcaps, wheel covers and painted) like 65 then no 66's built in December as a regular production car (excluding factory race cars and the like)  would not have been built typically with then in either 15" or 14"

If the car has been raced no telling what they changed out the original wheels for.  If racing I would guess they would have looked for something wider or even something custom made to get my rubber on the road.  What kind of racing were they doing with the car?

Bottom line no 14" Kelsey Hayes to look for if going back to factory.
