65 tail light assy questions
« on: May 20, 2020, 08:59:05 PM »
My Osborne electrical assembly manual is lacking definition on the page for the tail lights so I am asking you guys.
When taking my assemblies apart there is one nut underneath one of the stamp nuts. This is only on one of the studs. In the manual they reference a nut but I cant tell where it is in the drawing. Does anyone know? Or is there a better drawing of the assembly available?
Also what is the correct finish for the screws that attach the bezel to the housing? The parts houses list both a chrome screw and a stainless screw available to purchase.

Which side of the car, and which stud? There is a "J" clip used to hold the wiring harness that is held in place on the outer, upper left side stud. There are also grounds for the back up lights on the outer lower studs on both sides.
If you look in the library section of this forum, you will find a subject titled - "Mustang Hardware Spreadsheet 64-66". It has about 3000 entries pertaining to hardware used on 64 to 66 Mustangs, all body styles, in two files, one by part number, the other by application. Browse away.

The wiring J-clip on the LH side is usually attached to one of the studs for the quarter extension.

True. I corrected the master hardware spreadsheet to reflect this and the correction will appear in the next publishing of the 64-66 spreadsheets. (I blame the virus.)
The backup light housings grounds are connected to the taillight housings. The clearest depiction of the all these connection is the 64 Electrical Manual. The 65 and 66 Electrical Manuals are "smudged".

Jeff: your first picture doesn't appear to be a 65 as the bulb fits into the housing rather than a slip-on connector.

Thanks for the pictures, they answer my questions about the extra nut.
What about the finish of the screws holding the bezel in place?

I direct your attention to reply number 1 about the spreadsheets in the library.
