65 Distributor Dates ?
« on: May 13, 2020, 04:26:56 PM »
Is there a usual or accepted date range for the C5GF-12127-A assembly line installed  ' A ' code distributor ?  MustangTek's web page has an photo example with a 4MC date stamp.   1964, December and third week for a production date?   Just in time for the GT introduction ?  I recently heard of another C5GF-A distributor with a date stamp 4JC.  Did this C5GF-A model carry thru all of 65 production ?  Thanks, Brian

Can't answer how long C5GF-A's were used (without a little more time in the data) in production but and A code dist has little to do with the release or first build of the GT since most A codes were not ordered as GT's  and they predated the GT option availability. Sure one of the regular 65-66 members will have an idea of the application range of the specific dist

Mannell, Appendix D, pg D-3, shows only one distributor for all "A" code engines in 1965 - C5GF-12127-A.

Green primary wire eyelet connection is a common feature or did it change depending on the car line ?

Looking at Mikes unrestored cars, one is yellow and one appears white

At least in later cars the color relates to the length and in turn the application for the wire

Just one of a couple discussions for later cars

Well at 20" end to end it seems a bit long ?  Yes I measured it twice.  Brian

Don't have an early 65-6 small block dist with an original lead sitting around to measure and compare. Maybe someone else will

I have two readily available distributor leads handy. One is from a 65’ the other has the elbow lead and I think is from my 67’ spare distributor. They both measure about 13 1/2” from lead to lead. The 65’ measures appr. 8 1/2” from the external surface of the distributor to the leads yellow eyelet. Not sure if this can help. I have another original distributor but need to go to my other garage to take a pic.
