Early 1970 vs Late 1970
« on: April 28, 2020, 03:14:33 PM »
Im in the process of researching parts to buy for the restoration of my 3/19/70 Dearborn-built Mach and I am now curious about weather my Mustang is a 'late' 1970 given the MPC update as of Feb 1970. I tend to think my Mach IS a late 1970 being built in Mar 1970. Any agreement? Its not critical now but Id like to avoid having to replace certain parts marked off on a judging sheet as 'wrong period' if avoidable now. Thanks for your reply.

Are you stating (sorry don't have a 70 version) that the MPC has parts listed and identified as being "early" or "late" in the text rather than by a change date? Sorry just attempting to understand the starting point or basis your working from

The hobby uses "early" and "late" allot and it often has nothing to do with what month the change or detail is - just helps describe which one came first and which one followed. This may play into your issue

Tons of changes during the 70 model year. Bolt-in door glass, console latch, mach 1 fender cladding, ignition key warning buzzer, parking brake warning light, 428CJ passenger exhaust manifold, Detroit Locker, etc., etc.

Thanks for asking, Jeff. The MPC identifies items either 'before' a certain date or 'after' a certain date. For example Im shopping for a voltage regulator and if I select an 'early' version for 68, 69 and early 70 Mustangs (C8TF-10316-A) which is blue with a yellow 'Autolite' stamp and If I chose a 'late' version for  late 70 and early 71 Mustangs (D0AF-10316-A) its blue with a silver stamp. In this example the website (edit: www.musclemarket.net) gives the cutoff for 'early' as April 1970 and 'late' starts May 1970. Realizing this may be some undocumented version of the facts I am trying to apply the best info available when possible.

I do? Where? I don't use the terms "early" or "late" on this page:

https://www.musclecarresearch.com/regulator

I can't remember exactly where I came up with those cut-off months, but I'm sure it was based on references found in manuals and/or conversations with people more clueful than myself.

My apologies, Scott. I got my websites confused, it was https://mustangmarket.net/Mustang/1964-1973%20Mustang/1970%20Mustang/1970%20Mustang%20Parts.htm
Thanks for keeping me honest.

70 late hood, taillight wiring harness etc not to mention the assembly plant differences. 70 mustang is only year for 4 different owners manual printing date changes.

As a general statement IMHO you need to evaluate and double check the stuff you find on web sites. Often you have no idea as to how many years or even decades that information has been up and in turn what has been learned since then. I for one kind of automatically ignore ones where they include dated or incorrect information. In this cars (on the first page I clicked on) they included "MCA approved" something that hasn't been practiced for over 20 years or so.
