Removing grinder mark on door glass
« on: December 07, 2010, 08:50:07 PM »
Hello All,
I have a 69 Mustang with a driver's door window that got scratched by a DA or grinder in the past. Is there any way to polish out the grinder marks or do I need to find replacement door glass? I'd like to keep the original factory tinted door glass if possible, but finding a nice replacement anymore is expensive, and nearly impossible. Any help would be much appreciated.

I would replace the glass. the general rule of thumb on scratched surfaces is if you can feel the scratch with your finger nail it will not be removed by polishing. You may want to talk to automotive glass shop to see if they have any recommendation but I don't think there is any way to remove this completely.

Even if you polish out the marks, there will be some occular imperfection when you look through the glass.  In other words, things will look weird.

I've tried several methods over the years. None have worked on anything other than very small imperfections.
Thanks, Chuck
