68 Exhaust Manifolds ?
« on: September 17, 2012, 11:10:26 PM »
Looking around for the correct exhaust manifolds for a restoration project.  Would like some help with the correct engineering numbers and an approximation of correct dates.  The car is a 1968, San Jose Mustang Fastback  390-4V, 4 speed w/ GT Equipment Group.   Marti Build date is 3/18/68.

           8R02S   63B  Y5  6A  12C  71  E  S

EBay has a set:  Left    C7OE-9431 A  and 8  B  7
                           Right  C6OE 9430 A  and 8  B  10

I don't have the block casting date.  Are the C7OE and C6OE correct for this time frame ?  Thanks,  Brian

The casting numbers are fine - they kept using them until there was a revision - (then new numbers or letter was changed)

The dates, from the few I have records of are normally 3-5 months before the cars final date

+1  The dates are pushing it as too close. I had a 68 FE build of 1/19 with exhaust dates of 1/5 and 1/6 and thats as close as I've seen

So would   7  M  14&16  be a fit ?  Is this exhaust manifold supposed to use a spacer ?  Thanks,  Brian

Ford made a change on the RH 390/428 manifold between 67 & 69 on the h-pipe spacer end & can be seen on top side when installed in car & mpc says date change when i looked it up.

Based on the dates I'm seeing - yes, solely based on the cars projected build date (you need to get a Marti ;)  not the other engine parts dates

Without interest in each others projects and questions - we would not have a site ;)

Pretty close to the projected (best guess) date they made earlier it appears.
