67 S code valve cover gasket staples
« on: February 15, 2020, 05:23:08 AM »
Does anybody have a source or the specs for the valve cover gasket staples (Dec 22, 66 Dearborn built in case it matters)? I’ve been searching but could not find any specifics.

I used the extras out of some hood seal and splash shield kits. They were stainless steal.

The ones that I have seen still attached were rectangle shaped wire similar to typical staple gun rather then round stock like the radiator support or splash shield staples.

Pictures attached.

FWIW, my splash shield seal staples were rectangular as well (April 24, Dearborn).

+1 on the "flat" staples being original

Don't currently have a source for ready made. Guess they would not be difficult to make a dozen or two of.

Flat staples? Wow, who would use them? Just about every staple gun made. All you need to do is measure the width across the top, the width of the staple itself, the leg lendth and visit Home Depot and see what brand comes the closest.
When I attached new rubber to the front fender splash shields I found the original staples were 0.047 inch dia, the staples supplied with the new rubber shield was 0.062 inch dia - unacceptable. So I made some from 0.047 inch dia safety wire using my arbor press and a homemade die, enough for a couple of cars.
