67 P/S Idler Bushings
« on: February 12, 2020, 10:20:46 PM »
I searched but didn't find these details...

The 67 P/S Idler is a bit of an oddball. No one advertises the non-toothed bushing for the drag link stud.

Here is pic of Anghel's Restoration who will rebuild one for you (plug to compensate for the pic).

The drag link side on the arm uses a C7OZ-3358-A bushing which has the teeth for self centering. That's the bushing on the picture's left. This one is easy to find.

The non-toothed bushing is a much simpler bushing as the idler pivot arm simply goes through the bushing. But it's not advertised.

According to the MPC this bushing is a C5ZZ-3356-A. It has other applications.
But no one lists it as fitting 67 p/s applications.

Comments?
[edit to correct a typo on C7 part]

I think I purchased one from NPD.

The NPD catalog (and the absence in other catalogs) lead me to this thread!

They have a pic of a 3356-2 but the heading states:

3356 Bushing, Idler Arm, Upper
67-70  .......................................3356-2    14.97

with no notes about power or manual. So the implication is it fits all, I guess.
I hate guessing.

Thanks, Marty. And Bob.

On edit -- their catalog lists the toothed version (3358) as fitting only 68-70.
Yet another reason for the confusion

Bill : I just looked at the 1967 Only, the 1960-68 and the 1965-72 MPC's, and I believe the confusion is in the interpretation of what is presented in each. In all three, as you noted, it gives no differentiation of M/S or P/S for the Upper Bushing. However, for the Lower Bushing, all three MPC's note separate Part Numbers for "M/S" and for "P/S". Other applications for other Models noted in the MPC's are treated in the same manner. Thus, when no distinction for M/S or P/S is noted, one must conclude that the Part shown is applicable to both.
Make sense ?

Various vendors talk about the bushing and call it "Lower" while Ford will call it "Upper."

NPD calls out the bushings for 65/66 as M/S on one item and P/S on the other. It is very clear. On those years.

The only place I did find clarity was on the 60-68 Ford MPC.

Thanks for all the feedback, guys.
