stencil markings on drive shaft
« on: August 06, 2012, 09:59:43 AM »
I was wire brushing the rust off my drive shaft on my 66 6 cylinder convertible, Dearborn built Nov.65, and found the remains what appear to to yellow numbers stenciled on the drive shaft. The few numbers that remained were badly faded out, but I could make out an 8 and a 6. I could tell there were other numbers and maybe a letter or two.

I have heard of stripes being on the drive shaft but not numbers. Has anyone else ran across these, and what would they be? Also, what would the color of the stripes be on this drive shaft and where would they be located?

Thanks so much for any help!

a quick search turned this up. http://www.concoursmustang.com/forum/index.php?action=search2  not the same application as yours of course. the #'s are from the tube maker and have nothing to do with the actual application.

Use the search and you'll find the earlier threads as mentioned  - SEARCH is your friend ;)

As for marks the stripes do not hold up on early drivelines well so not allot of samples but for a try we'll need to know what trans you car has/had since that as well as the year and engine size make all the difference.
