Ignition Switch
« on: March 23, 2020, 09:33:09 PM »
Funny enough my father and I have both been fighting with faulty ignition switches. naturally theyre of the reproduction type. Mine is about a year or so old and is randomly not starting and shutting off randomly. I replaced part of the harness with a new pigtail and soldered on new connections when the last unit went in. I'm fairly certain I don't have a connection issue Same issue on my fathers 64 galaxie. He's on switch number 3 I think. Ive messed with connections and cleaned what I could. I purchased a NOS switch and was curious if I should do anything to the switch before installing it as far as cleaning or checking resistance etc...

From personal experience I've had a couple of reproduction ignition switches fail and exhibit the same symptoms that you described.  As a result, I bought a NOS switch and have had zero issues since.  I didn't do any pre-checks whatsoever - I just installed it.

Ron
