C4 Transmission Band Adjusment
« on: December 24, 2019, 04:48:10 AM »
Hi all, I've seen so many different opinions on the C4 Band adjustment (ie: back off 1 turn, 1 1/2 turns, 3 turns etc..) For a 1966 289 GT coupe what is the correct C4 Band adjustment for the front and read bands please?  My C4 has the course thread bolts.

thanks everyone

IIRC the service manual states to tighten the low/reverse band 10-12 in lb then back it off 2 turns; intermediate band is also 10-12 in lb but back it off 1-1 1/2 turns. Adjustments should be done on a warm trans.

I do remember there was a Rotunda "special tool" we had at the dealership. It was a set torque wrench if you will "fixed" at 10 in lb and made just for band adjustments. It resembled a cheap small ratcheting box end wrench or hex driver. Obviously you don't need this to do the adjustment but it was handy.
