67 Front Bumper Brackets, Braised Together
« on: October 21, 2019, 07:48:20 AM »
I have a pair of original brackets that looked to have been braised together.
I do know that my original INNER brackets were aftermarket but it looks like I may still have my original OUTER brackets which do not have signs of being tacked together (though they also may have been replaced in a 1997 front bumper replacement,  I don't remember what I did for that repair).

These brackets with the brass tack welds or braising came from an eBay purchase or the likes so I cannot vouch for vehicle production information. There also looks to be an orange crayon mark on the right side outer bracket.

Without knowing any of this to be original, I will NOT be planning to duplicate either of these details but thought I would ask if either detail had been seen before.

Here in our wrecking yard it is fairly common to find them that way. I always believed that it was from various auto body shops doing the welding/brazing.

I think that it is a very prudent course of action. I am very skeptical that was a assemblyline detail based on personal observations over the years.

To make clear your description the outer bracket has a repair that is brazed  together too the inner reproduction bracket?

IF so then as others have offered its the results of some "trick" some repair shops have found helpful when repairing or disassembly and installation

Brazing would not be something we would expect to find on these parts from the factory

No, the set of 4, were original, used parts, I had the reproduction ones in use at time of disassembling the car.
I only needed the inner ones as it turns out but saw this brass tack weld and wondered if perhaps there may have been a time or assembly plant that may have done this. I did figure it not to be typical of an Assemblyline procedure, various comments seem to all concur.

Yes, standard Mustang brackets
