Uh Duh...on me....lol....!

Maybe too much of a project for him to take on now.....Who knows...?.....Gary Does!...lol...

Interesting is the comment in the article about the fitting of the panels was not done very well because they had to use a sledge hammer on the wheelhouse for the convertible top mechanism to clear. I have not worked on many 65/66 convertible's but the many 67-69 convertibles that I have worked on all had that same smashed down wheelhouse look as if done by a sledge hammer.

I think that at some point that the Convertible Inner Wheelhouse Sheet metal did have a clearance in it for the Convertible Top Mechanism.  Something that the designers forgot to add on the Original design drawings....lol...and was quickly rectified by the guys on the assembly lines bashing in Early Convertible inner wheelhouses.   Would like to know when the Sheetmetal changeover took place.  I would not be surprised if it was on a drawing somewhere in one of the early Osborn Ford Assembly Manuals.... I'll have to look...as I have them all of the '64-'66 Assembly manuals.   This was also not the first time a Wheelhouse would be "Clearanced"....as some Early Convertibles did not have the Wheelhouse provision for the Spare Tire either...which was also later added...

Yep- one Skyway Mustang is enough for anyone to own.  I'll be looking for a 5C or 9C early VIN car once this one sells.

I think it was more a general build technique typically done for clearance on 65-70 rather then a early car technique . I can show you multiple pictures of 67-69 convertible wheel houses (just what I have pictures of ) that look basically the same crude technique as in the picture. I bet Jeff S. has many more dozens of the same things .

I had heard this as well.   You'd think Ford would have engineered this in after the first two years of production at least....instead of having assembly line workers still continue to bash hammers....but no.  I guess that they figured that Convertible production was going to be rather small when compared with overall production.  I also seriously doubt that the Mustang was the only car model that they did this on.  An Interesting Side Note to Ford Mustang Assembly Line Production.

Going to Gilmore Museum today to see Gary's car.  Never got to see it put together.  Then fly out of Lansing for Fredericksburg.

I'm interested in how it's going to draw a crowd like the ad claims.  What about it is different from a regular '65 convertible that you can readily see that would draw your attention?
