Here is my 67 K with the grey back panel paint option.  Build date 3/2/67 from Dearborn

I love that look.

I wonder if the Mustang paint option I saw as a kid lead me to black out most every car I had since that time. Well, anything that had a real taillight panel.

I wish Shelby had done that ...

I love that look.

Going back on focus of the "ribbed" panel and combining "liking the look", I have always thought the option lacked luster since "chrome, and MORE chrome" was a popular theme in the 60's. I always felt REMOVING the chrome trim around the taillights was more of deleting  trim than adding trim.
The two-tone paint option, in my opinion, didn't  help in the 67's either ( though I liked it in the GRABBER Colors of 1970). My thoughts on the 67's with the two-tone tailight panel, either with or without the ribbed panel, is that it came across imbalanced. There wasn't enough to tie it in as a theme (like they did in later years) such as blacking out the side vents, perhaps with or without striping the recesses of the exterior decor hood (and perhaps going over the roof or the likes) to balance out the theme.
Now, had Ford's design team added polished aluminum to the high points of the ribbed panel (akin the deluxe door panel speaker grilles), THAT would look awesome in my opinion (on a full-dress 67).
