Topic: 69 Hoodscoop paint detail

Recently Jeff was showing us details of an unrestored red 1970 Shelby. In that blog someone noticed that one the pictures for the hood was that of 69 Shelby because it lacked the typical 70 striped paint. So that picture was removed.

However ,in that picture we could see a small black paint outline around the perimeter of the scoop. Jeff, would you please repost that picture in this post and if you could elaborate on the procedure. Thank you for your help.

Yes recall the posting and removal - not sure why that car lacked the hood stripes but the pictures were taken by a good friend and the detail noted on the picture. Might have missed it given the color of the car and the lighting without it





With the one below I've got two examples of this practice - not a popular spot to take a picture of but will keep looking

Thanks Jeff, but this is not the picture I was referring to. The picture that I wanted to see was taken from above the hood, and we could see a distinct line of black paint around the perimeter of the scoop. The car was a red 69, since it did not have a black paint striping along the hood scoop. Thats also why you removed the picture, since the post was for a 1970 Shelby.
I seem to recall that you noted that you had seen this detail on many unrestored Shelbys. I would be very interested in seeing that detail as we getting ready to paint my car.

( Finally, I will be painting the car with ppg single stage grabber orange paint, instead of base coat/clear coat)

Yes it was a red 69 Shelby

Thanks Jeff, thats the picture I was talking about.
So that black line is the inside ridge of the hood scoop. The hood scoops were masked masked off along with the rest of the hood and the underneath of the hood was painted black. Would that be correct?

That is likely how that little detail was created. It would have been allot easier and quicker to just mask across the opening and not dealing with the small thin lip and the fact that it was black would transition well against the black coop screens

When I first saw that picture I got the impression that the black line was painted on the top side of the hood. And since it was removed from the original post I wasn't able to examine it more in depth.
