Spring Washer on Front Parking Brake Cable.
« on: November 07, 2020, 05:47:19 PM »
I bought an "Exact" Reproduction Front Parking Brake Cable and not sure where the spring washer should be located.  As packaged the cable came with the washer on the parking brake handle end.  I have a Ford service part which has the washer at the other end.  I think that would be correct as with the washer on the repo part it just sits there and does nothing if not promote rattling instead of prevent it.  Which end should the washer be on?  Thanks!

The service part has it in the right place.  That's an awful reproduction, I wouldn't use that.  A good soak in evapo-rust and the other one should look nice.  Remove the decal, they weren't on assembly line parts.

Thank you Mr. Turner for confirming the correct location of the spring washer.  I think I harvested the service part from a wrecking yard Mustang which is why I left the brackets on it.  Looking at the "Exact" reproduction I have to agree, it really is bad - even the cable is the wrong size.  Fortunately, the Mustang I'm reassembling is nowhere near a Concours candidate or I'd be sending the part back.  I'll save the Ford part when I get a better Mustang.
