1970 Automatic Shifter issue ...

Went to replace the bushings in the shifter in my 70 Mach1 and ran into an issue. The screws that hold the Chrome Bezel to the aluminum bucket were were stuck/corroded/stripped and in the ensuing carnage of trying to drill out the screws, both the bezel and the bucket was rendered unusable. I went to my stash and pulled out another shifter from my stash, took it apart, media blasted the bucket, and built up another shifter. Everything looked great, I installed the shifter, adjusted the linkage, everything was find till I installed the bezel. It's a C9ZZ marked 69/70 part, and when the shift lever is up against the detents on the plate mounted in the bucket, the pointer is between 2 gears. Everything works fine, it's just annoying that the pointer is way off. I used all original used parts, as the car is a "survivor" and want it to look like it's never been apart.

As far as I can tell, the only thing that can be wrong is either the bezel lense or the detent part of the bucket as the movable stop on the lever is centered on the lever. 

I don't have a MPC handy, but I assumed all 69/70's use the same bucket and bezel assy.   Am I correct or did I somehow get the wrong bucket? I'd rather confirm that the bucket is wrong before I pull the console and shifter back out of the car....

In a related question, I was hunting around for an NOS bezel I have (but can't find) and found several NOS C9ZZ shift levers I bought ages ago. The way the tags and boxes were marked implys that there were 2 different Auto shifter levers used in a 69/70, one for console equipped cars and one for everything else. NPD's catalog seems to back this up. Can anyone check to see if this is the case in the MPC and if so , what's the difference ?

Sometime between 1969 and 1970 Ford changed the pawl on the automatic shift lever. Made it thicker, and the corresponding bucket had to have the park slot larger to fit it.
If you are using a 1969 lever with small pawl, "Park" will be sloppy in the later bucket. May also give you the problem that you are having.
