Hi Bob and forum members. While disassembling my Dearborn 1970 Boss 302, I noticed a never seen before washer stuck to the inside trunk floor drivers side where a rubber body plug is suppose to be installed. This is one of the holes where the assembly line cradle would have attached to the unibody. My question is, what was attached to the inside of the unibody to secure the body on the cradle while it was going down the line or did the body just sit on the cradle. I'm just wondering if this washer was part of the cradle assembly or something else. The washer has OD 1.750" and .500" ID. It has original body colour build up on the outside with natural on the underside. I have attached a picture of the washer. Thanks for any input...Shelby

The washer looks like what you described. When James gets home from school I'll have them post a few pics of what I have examples of.

The skid is from DAP that a 1970 body in white was sent to Bud Moores shop in 1969. You can see the four contact points to the unibody. Two of these pads were attached to the unibody with 5/8 special bolts. The other two were locater pads the body sat on. As you can see in the photos I have two different style 5/8 bolts. I have seen numerous witness marks in the trunk area with various washer diameters used. The double pad in the rear of the skid was for the Cougar/vs Mustang unibody. The washer you have will be a neat conversation piece at car shows.

Boy you would think a neat historically unibody skid would deserve better treatment like a heated garage bay . If you don't have room I can always make room in mine . PS keep that white stuff up by you I don't want any of it by me . BG

Thanks Bob for the clarification. Have you seen these washers left on cars before? You wonder how it left the factory without the rubber plug. Its amazing how this washer stayed on the car after 40 odd years. Your cradle is a very neat part of Mustang history and thanks for sending your young lad to snap pictures....Shelby
