Stainless exhaust
« on: May 29, 2019, 03:25:22 PM »
Still plugging away at this '66 convertible. Dearborn A code 4 spd. GT. Time for exhaust. I know it's not correct, but the customer wants a complete stainless system.
I have found many companies that offer a "headers back" system, but this car still has the factory manifolds. Has anyone come across anybody that offers a factory front pipe in stainless?

            Thanks, Pete.

I think you are referring to a "H" pipe used on GT dual exhaust systems. It transitions from the cast iron exhaust manifolds to the rest of the exhaust system. You may get all the pipes in stainless steel, but I don't remember the attaching hardware and brackets in SST.

Yes,  "H" pipe. Actually, the service manual refers to it as the 'muffler inlet pipe'. Either way, I haven't been able to locate any reproduction or aftermarket companies that offer said pipe in stainless.  I have a good local source for custom work, but I just thought that maybe somebody on the forum had been down that road.

Since the site is original configuration focused not sure if anyone here has chosen to use stainless especially considering that they would all have to include and often pipes welded to resonators and or mufflers depending on what year your dealing with.

Guess we'll wait and see but good luck with your search

Just to add,

Waldron’s provided a total manifold-back exhaust system for my ‘55 pickup; mild steel not stainless. High quality and all the pieces installed without much tweaking at all.  Great service and while Waldron’s works off an order queue and sometimes there’s a considerable wait (weeks), they stay in touch and provide updates on your order.
