What is this bracket for?
« on: May 21, 2019, 03:24:46 PM »
This bracket is from my 64.5.  I believe it goes on one of the switch shafts on the dash, but unsure which one?

It is normally spot welded to the headlamp switch.

That bracket / spacer is correct for 64 1/2 (units built before 8/17/1964) and was NOT spot welded to the headlight switch assembly. It was used as a spacer between the switch and backside of the dash. They were a separate piece in 64 1/2 for the service part number C5ZZ-11654-A. The later C5ZZ-11654-B had the bracket welded to the switch assembly. The two switches are not interchangeable by the way, since Ford decided to make the spade connector configuration a bit different.  Just my experience and of course not set in stone!   Paul

You are so right! I owned a early '65 D code Mustang and never knew the headlight switch was specific to Generator equipped early cars! There are a couple of them on eBay right now where I got this picture:

There is also a headlight switch used between August 7,1964 and November of 1964.  Not sure what the difference is between that one and the later 65.

Some Later "Over the counter" Motorcraft Headlight switches and also some Aftermarket Headlight switches had the bracket as an "add-on" inside the box seperately instead of it being welded on the headlight switch as original so that the headlight switch could cover more Ford and Mercury vehicles other than the Mustang.

Thank you all for the great information!  Another item specific to the 64.5.
