66 Service replacement grille color
« on: May 14, 2019, 05:58:08 PM »
I picked up what appears to be an NOS service replacement 66 grille.  The color is very flat black.   I think the color should be semi gloss black.
Is this typical of a service replacement grille?     Is the date on the box a shipment date?  or a manufacture date?  Also, it looks like the
manufacturing process doesn't sand the front edges of the horizontal bars where the corral would reside.   Cheaping out on the process? :-)

Sorry for the multiple questions.  Thanks

It's a Ford replacement, but the rivets are the correct style.  It ought to be a bit glossier.  Wouldn't replicate the runs.

The center area where the edges are black is meant to "black out" the area behind the horse and corral. Makes it appear to "float" in the center of the grill. If you had grill bars and fog lights attached to the corral, all grill edges are blacked out to have the same effect.

It's going on a 66 Shelby so I guess I'll lightly sand the front edges of the bars to get the paint off and I do see that they are beveled so I need
to be careful here.

Thanks!

Or just used some thinner and a close/tight nap cloth to wipe it off. Just an option

Thanks Jeff, less chance of ruining the bevel that way.
