Topic: wood grain help

  ok  just got this trim part for npd that is said to be light teak  when comparing it to my panels in the car  it is more tan then mine oem trim..  my question is there more the one color of the light teak  used by different assembly plants??  i have NJ built car on april 1st

Only one version of walnut and one of teak. Of course like anything batches could vary a little but not that much from the examples I have. Of course age and exposure to the elements and the sun can alter the look after 50 years and reproductions can be off also.

On my monitor the examples you posted - especially the upper look to be the walnut. Even the used lower one doesn't look teak in the picture I'm seeing

The look of the clock surround looks like (on my monitor) like what I've referred to as walnut. Others have called it dark teak but for me that gets a bit confusing

Are you certain your car was originally a teak (light woodgrain) car?

  ok  looking at them two pic  my panel are all light teak... i so would you say that there is only one shade of the light teak ?  so the NPD part is wrong shade  so any one know where i can get a panel with the correct light teak or the wood grain material as so to swap it out to the correct color

and  as for was the car a light teak car   them are all original panel to the car and i am it second owner  since 1978

IF they don't match either your examples have changed due to age and exposure or the reproduction could be off a bit.  In your second picture the reproduction shows less dark grain features mixed into the pattern There is some documentation that ties the wood  grain color/type to the interior code but have found some original cars were they (code and woodgrain) didn't match what was suppose to be.

BTW does the current reproduction have the surface grain stamped/designed into the product?  Past versions were just woodgrain without the surface grain indents

Believe I may have some door inserts out int he garage. If so I'll snap and post a couple of pictures just for your comparison

  i have seen thing about  3A or 3AA  but don't know what is what  try doing search but still get what code was with what wood color     pic was hard took three shot of the clock panel and every pic look different in color the wood panel in the car have a yellowish or a golden tan look ... the replacement panel was more tan brown  with no yellowish or golden in it   and jeff  i don't think there was a graining in it

That is what we've been told it all decodes to but as mentioned have found a few examples where that didn't match. One such car was a Jan  69 example. Maybe there were a number of them where the workers didn't read the code correctly or completely

Found one of a couple of examples had out in the garage

Does appear that the reproduction lacks the darker grain intermixed with the light teak color and the base is not as golden as the originals. At least that is what I'm seeing.






Also as mentioned it is missing the surface grain as reported
