To be lucky or good?
« on: May 18, 2019, 10:57:23 PM »
Good Evening friends!

So there I was no s#&t today.  Upside down twisted side ways like a 14 year old Chinese gymnast trying to get my brake pedal mounting hardware, heater box and AC system out from under the 70 Mach 1 dash.  So I say to my self, "self, how will this all end"?  "Will you be good enough not to break anything and will you get lucky and find anything cool like a build sheet etc...?"  Self answered "probably not to both".

So the age old question was answered at least for one day for me.  "Would you rather be lucky or good? Today I was lucky!  No, I did not find the build sheet.  However, after seeing my swiss cheese floor boards and more than one hole in my lower cowl I had decided my luck was out and all would be trash under there whether I was good enough to not break anything or not.   Then after getting everything thing out unscathed other than my back, knees, neck, elbow, forehead, knuckles and inhaling a bazillion mouse turds and nests, I saw it.  My lucky day!

See attached :)  It was a magic moment for me and the Mach 1!

Good night friends,

Good find and looks very decent!

Time to dig into the firewall pad restore thread.

Bossbill, thanks for the advice.  I read that thread when it was building and going to read it again.  Good stuff.

Got luck again today.  Carefully with a friend was able to get original frontvand rear glass out.  Sail panels almost unscathed and original headliners undamaged.  Really really lucky.   So my qusetions are:

Best way to thouroghly clean the headliner without damaging anything.

How do you repair edges or restore sail paanela if little spota oof black covering peeled off on removal in a few spots.

Thanks in advance for your help.

IF its just the edges where the adhesive is giving way to the years and rolling around the edge I would reglue then if the rest still looks good. If too far gone or the panel/backing is broken, bent or cracked you might need to replace but the fresh material may stand out a little next to an original head liner. Best IMHO to try and save both or replace both and store the originals if that is the way you choose. Is nice when you can say this or that is still original on a car - Speaks to how nice it was before the restoration. Not everyone can make those claims

I will get pics and post.  I think they are covered with a material and ripped too far past the rear window seal to hide.

If that is the case and the "board" is still in good condition you could recover it or just get a whole new assembly
