Restoring a 1967 Shelby GT-500, Factory 4 speed built in January 1967, could someone tell me the correct factory color markings on the tail shaft and the measurement spacings from the differential universal joint, thanks in advance.

If I interpret your usage of the word "tailshaft" correctly, and though it might be regionally-correct where you are located to use "tailshaft", it may be better for the sake of using the 'search feature', if you instead of "tailshaft", use the word "driveshaft" in your inquiry.

I typed in driveshaft in the search area but there were no responses. Does anybody have the answer, please? I'm asking if anybody knows the correct color factory markings (stripes) on a 1967 Shelby GT-500, 4 Speed manual built early January 1967, thanks in advance.

 This would get more "Shelby" eyes if you place it in the 1967 Shelby category. Not that the factory markings could necessarily be different but being a big block car, more chances those guys watching that category will chime in with what they have seen.

From front to rear in order for your car assembled in Jan at San Jose other examples I have suggest that it was likely

White - Medium Blue - Red

You can at times find these stripes applied in reverse. Guess they it would not matter to the worker at the substation adding the transmission yoke or identifying the driveline on the car line.

There may have been additional stripes to other operations and checks but those three would have been the identification stripes I believe your asking about Locations and width of each can vary a bit. Guess you've already red the article in the Library about paint marks and seen some examples of these stripes and typical color pallet used.

I have a number of examples where the three stripes are located about two foot behind the front yoke if that helps


Yokes were painted orange for identifications before they were welded to the driveline - so the paint on the edges would have burnt a bit but that is covered in some other
threads about driveline details
