70 rear side marker lights
« on: February 05, 2019, 03:09:05 PM »
Anyone have a pic of how the little metal bracket fits on the rear side marker lights? On another forum it was suggested that they don't belong on there but they were definitely on there upon disassembly over 8 years ago....i just can't recall how they were installed.
The hole in the center of the bracket will not allow the pigtail socket to pass through it.
Open to opinions and suggestions. thanks...John

You didn't include when and where your car was built so we're left to guess. Picked a collection across the plants and months.

Not sure what metal bracket your referring to or what your have since you didn't provide a pictures. Hope one of the following helps you in your search ++

Yup, the pictures reflect what is in the 1970 Mustang Electrical Assembly Manual (AM0033 pg 41) right on down to the stud protectors.

There is a metal strap on white plastic just under the black plastic outer holder on the later 70 wire  black plug push-in type socket VS early type white twist in type wire socket.  I think the black socket type shows up after jan 70 & uses the  wide black tape covering the socket or is that a plant change. Look at jeffs last photo as u can see the silver metal strap under the black plastic & where the tape was before being peeled off.

A grounding strap Ed?  The metal strap your referring to. Since its a two wire hook up maybe it for something else.

Would have helped if the OP would have included plant and production period/date ;)

I did take these off but for the life of me i can't recall the sequence.

I do appreciate all the input.....John

Doesnt the metal strap flip the other way & the early white plug twist in but the black plug just pushin to the metal strap hole so thats how it holds in place.

Specialed: Yep, i flipped it over and it fits flush with the opening in the lens. My dilemma is that i removed these from this car way back and upon looking at the rear harness it has the twist in sockets.??? Or else i have another rear harness here somewhere with the push in sockets which would make sense for sure.
I'll keep looking...thanks for the response.

According to the 70 Mustang Electrical Assembly Manual, it was a 1970 Mustang designed part. According to the 1969 Mustang Electrical Assembly Manual, it's a different design.
Are you looking for alternate sources?

It’s been so long since I’ve taken the car apart that I’ve forgotten how the rear markers were installed. Did my car also have a similar bracket, I’ll have to look through the parts...🤣

No except possibly for some really late 69 Dearborn cars for some reason (another subject) . From some of the cars in the unrestored picture section of the site ;)

Thanks, that looks more familiar to me, since my car is a Dearborn ,April 21, 1969.

My friends' Metuchen 1970 Boss 302, has them however. In this picture we can see the part number, DOZB-15A439A.
