What?s the best way to remove the air extractor mesh on a 65 2 +2?

There is minor but noticeable pitting in the chrome, so I told the shop doing my car let?s re-chrome. They said sure but you take the mesh out. Any ideas or your experiences would be appreciated. Now, the million dollar question. What?s your favorite chrome shop?

I'm afraid the metal will most likely break away when trying to bend it over to release the mesh.  Would recommend to find a better set with nice chrome.

Difficult to refinish nicely due to the sharp edges and the inward pockets. If you remove the grill be prepared to epoxy some of the edges away from the edges., Deeper in those pockets formed by the outer case grill

Thank you for the reply. I found the email link in junk email this morning. I did pickup an extractor on eBay for $19 plus $10 shipping to practice on. The shop is using the MCA judging sheet while putting the car back together. I imagine the judges take a quick peek in the air extractors just like I do now. I thought I had a line on a set of extractors, but the guy could not find them. He has thousands of mustang and K car parts. He keeps a mental inventory so he must have sold them already.

I'd suggest they expand out quite a bit from simply the MCA judging sheets.  Hate to say it, but if you go just by what is there, it will not be a pleasant experience the first time the car is judged.

This site and others can help fill in a lot of details not covered in the rulebook.

No illusions of gold the first time out. The owner of the shop has a trailered gold 64 ?. He said it took 12 years to get it to gold. He remembers some of the point deductions like pop rivets in the repo grill, so out they came and replace with solid rivets.

It's possible to hit gold first time out, but it takes a lot of experience.  Getting involved in judging can ramp up the learning curve quite a bit.

Regardless, check here with any questions and seek out feedback.
