1970 remote (LH) mirror disassembly
« on: February 04, 2019, 08:26:44 AM »
I need to disassemble the remote mirror to paint and restore it. How do you disconnect and remove the cable so the whole thing comes apart?
This one looks like it's meant to be easy but it's not at the moment.

I would not say there is anything easy about it, but it can be done. The interior control knob screws into a cast aluminum receiver which the 4 adjustment cables are  connected to, they slipped into a slot and the crimped close . Carefully pry the slots open to remove the cables , then can be disassembled. Ford sold that receiver with control arm as a service item for when the arm got broke off

Brilliant! I was unsure whether the cables were jammed or crimped in and thanks for the information. It definately looks like something that wasn't  meant to come apart.
