Topic: Rocker Molding Center clips screw or rivet

Body assembly manual calls for 2 phillips head screws to attach each center rocker molding clip, yet pop rivets are what I see mostly.  There is no fastener id# in the assembly manual for a screw or pop rivet.  Is there a changeover date for using screws or pop rivets, for Dearborn 64.5 cars?

I've only seen pop rivets.  The one time I saw screws was on a GT convertible that someone added rocker panel moldings.

Which makes sense in that the clip kit in the period parts and accessories manual calls out 20 8-18 x 1/2" pan head screws, 376389-S101(UU82D).

The 64 Mustang Body Assembly Manual shows a retainer plate, C4ZB-6510198-B, using 2 each screws but does not reference a screw part number. The 65 Mustang Body Assembly Manual shows a different retainer, C4ZB-6510182-B, using 2 ea (10 places) of rivet 378527-S, 1/8NOM,0.337BODY L,0.250HD,0.126-0.187GRIP,AL (66 uses a stainless steer rivet). The 75 MPC references rivets only.
This "may" be a 64 running change from screws to rivets.

A point of reference: the AMK "Guide to Ford Fasteners - 1955-73" and the "Ford Standard and Utility Parts Catalog, 1969" both have the length of screw 376389-S101 at 3/4 inch.
Not unusual, but Ford does make "errors".

Also, the effective date for the Body assembly Manual diagram with the screws is 4/24/64 - so some period of time after that would seem likely for the changeover.  I was looking for some other 64.5 cars out there that have the screws so that we might be able to get a better estimate of when the change occurred.

Yeah it's a discrepancy between the earlier part description and the later.  I'm wondering what finish S101 is? 

The clips on my June car were riveted on, but I know from talking to an earlier owner who painted the car in 1980 that the clips were removed and put back on with rivets.  But the retainer clips still have the scrape marks from where the screws were twisted down originally.  Those marks measure .25" in diameter, so I'm thinking that the screw had a .25" head and is very similar to the 3597097-S in appearance (AMK has it) but with the S101 finish.
