I did a search and did not find anything on this topic, so maybe it will be a good one.
I am almost ready to apply my 69 Shelby stripe kit. I have an old NOS kit, but fear it is too old so I purchased a newer kit a few years ago. The car was painted 10 months ago, color sanded and buffed. I was going to start the polishing and waxing process but decided I should ask about applying the stripe kit first. Might anyone have any recommendations on surface preparation before applying the stripe? Obviously, a wax and grease remover should be used for best adhesion, but what should be done to the paint prior to the application, if anything? I think the lining up and placement of the decals has been covered here.
I applied a 69 Mach 1 stripe kit back in the 80's. I used a taut string, taped the un-pealed parts in place, made reference lines and marks on tape and stuck them on. It turned out nice, but the kit was old and some small areas of the backing did not want to release from the glue. Hence the reason I have purchased the NEW kit.
I see there is an application liquid that is supposed to allow you to float the decals in place, squeegee out the liquid and then remove the upper layer of paper.
Thanks for your assistance.
