Back up light mounting on 1968 hardtop base
« on: October 10, 2018, 10:54:45 AM »
Restoring the rear valance area, I noticed the back up lights have some kind of double mounting. The bulb housing is inside another badly rusted metal housing. I didn't see anywhere this metal one to buy and replace. It doesn't come in the lights assembly kit, neither in rear valance kits. Could it be one of the previous owners invention? On the other hand it looks pretty much professional work...

The images you provided are of the FRONT Turn signal housings, not the back up lights.
68 back-up lights use a domed insert and a nut, the domed insert aligns the nut to the angle of the valance.

It has been my experience not all cars had the domed spacers on the backup lights.

As stated above what you have pictured is for the front. The inside cup was usually gold dichromate finish.
