Headlight bucket mounting
« on: October 20, 2018, 11:26:40 PM »
Does the headlight bucket go underneath the blacked out area of the fender or over it? Looking at photos found here, it looks like it goes under it.

This would mean the headlight bucket color would show under the blacked out area? Or does the bucket need to be inserted so the fender's metal bracket wraps around it, which I do not see in any photos?

FYI AT AO smith the buckets were installed on the fenders before painting body color. That means the screws and the inside bucket are body color or have overspray. The fender was masked off before the dark argent was sprayed . The Dark argent was sprayed on top of the previous body color overspray. Also something to note is that the entire front end was assembled off of the car before the dark argent was painted. The entire painted front end was installed in one piece onto the car.  Just wanted you to be aware of the way the factory did it so you understood the process.

I understand the process but do not have the jig like they used. I know, I'm not doing mine right. I've got everything painted in pieces and now I'm putting it together, one piece at a time. It's just me so I can't get more than I can hold myself.

Knowing the process many who paint in pieces will try and duplicate the spray process for a similar look . Also knowing the process people like yourself trying to replicate original factory techniques and looks will help decide which makes the most sense to copy and which to not.
