1964.5 Convertible Top Replacement
« on: September 16, 2018, 07:29:52 PM »
I need to replace the Convertible Top on my 1964.5. The stats on my car are in my signature. I looked through the threads and discovered this link with some great info:

http://www.concoursmustang.com/forum/index.php?topic=10161.msg60385#msg60385

I plan to look at all of the referenced manufacturers.

But the car there is a 1966 (December 1965) San Jose Build. Does this information apply to my car?

Anything else special about the convertible top on my car that i should know?

Thanks so much.
Thanks Roger

You want to make sure that the plastic cover over the bow that hides the staples is the correct length. Many at the shows I have seen are too short. I have never seen one that is too long. The Assembly Manual has the correct length. If you don't have one I can check later. You will need to tell the installer the length if you are not doing the top installation yourself.  The two chrome tips at each end of the cover are pointed or round. I believe the NPD catalog has the change over date. Lastly, you can make the strap that attaches to the end of the zipper out of black baseball glove leather or think leather shoe laces used for work boots. There are several photos on this site of what it looks like. The strap may be a later addition and not on the 1964.5 tops. Someone here will know.

Great, thanks so much. I will look for the pics. Hopefully, others can fill in some of the details such as the straps or even direct me to the threads with the pics. I do not have the Assembly Manual although I have other books regarding the installation of early model Mustang top. Unfortunately, they are designed to address 1965 thru 1973 so are not much on the fine details.

I truly appreciate the time all take for my uninformed questions.
Thanks Roger
