1967 Extra Cooling

Hey guys. I just got a Marti Report and discovered that my car was equipped with the extra cooling package. What would have been different on my engine because of this package compared to a car without it? Thanks.
1967 San Jose deluxe coupe. Wimbledon White, vinyl top.
289 2V with C4 trans. PB, PS, T/E.

All I can think of is the radiator ,fan shroud, fan, fan clutch and associated hardware. If there is anything else hopefully others will catch it.

So there was a different "extra cooling" radiator? Did it have an extra row? I made a topic yesterday about the correct fan for my car. The consensus was that it should be the C6AE-8600-E fan but now that I know the car had X/C I'm completely unsure again. All I know is that since 1979 the car had no fan shroud and the C6AE-8600-E fan (no clutch) but this could have been easily changed since I know the car had the engine pulled by a shop around that time.

I remember references to "fins per inch" as the difference, but same thickness.

While the "1967 Showroom Options" book notes under "Extra Cooling Package" that it includes "Larger Radiator (more fins per inch), a look at the 1967 MPC and the 1960-68 MPC both show that the same radiator (C7ZZ-8005-B, 20-1/4 x 16-3/8 x 1-1/4") was used for "Standard", "Extra Cooling" and "A/C" applications. Both MPC's also show that the fans used were a 4 blade, 17-1/2" diameter for "Standard" (exc Special, A/C or T/E) applications ; a 5 blade "fixed", 17" diameter fan for "Extra Cooling" (without A/C) ; and a 7 blade, 17-1/2" diameter clutch (viscous) fan for A/C. Also noted  is that the "Extra Cooling" package is "Standard with A/C".

According to the MPC's, it appears that the only difference between "Standard Cooling" and "Extra Cooling" is the Fan ?

Bob, I'm wondering if Ford from the start was limiting the variations for Service, which is why the MPC is in conflict with the showroom option book and perhaps common sense (or folk lore).

I would be most interested in a comparison of build sheets for the radiator/fan area, thinking that would be telling.

John L Yes, I thought of that possibility also. As you noted, the only way to know for sure is by the Build Sheets, as the Invoices and Marti Reports would just list "X/C Package", and/or "SelectAire" and not give their  contents.

Hopefully, some will have Build Sheets that can answer our questions.

It appears that some of the questions can be answered in the "1967 Ford Engine Equipment Assembly Manual". However, since all Models are included, as well as all engines, with and without Thermactor, etc., it will take some time to sort through it. A quick look shows that a radiator with a different Part Number than the "Standard" radiator was
used for Extra Cooling and A/C. It also shows that the fan shroud is only used with Thermactor, and/or A/C. Then there is also an illustration that shows 289 Mustang with SelecAire and "Standard Cooling". This is in conflict with the Showroom Options book and the early (10/17/66) and late (5/29/67) Salesman's Price books I have, all of which note that the Extra Cooling Package is included with SelectAire. As I noted, this will take closer inspection and sorting through, but at least it's a place to start.

+1. I can remember reading recently in one of the Ford service manuals (but can't recall which) a Ford note at the bottom of the page indicating that the service radiators would be of the highest cooling capacity along with instruction of no need to unplug the auto cooling line plugs when used on a 4 speed application . As Jim surmised that is most likely why the MPC is in conflict with the showroom option book.

Mustang is 20 inch.

That video is a little confusing. We were suggesting an "upgrade" to a 24 inch radiator which was available starting in 1968.
