1964 1/2 V8 Differential Color
« on: August 07, 2018, 04:48:03 PM »
I am tying to determine the correct color for the rear differential for my 1964.5 Convert. v.260 F Code. The MCA Rules say black. I have seen the pumpkin red. Also, some of the parts remained steel. I searched index  but saw nothing on point.

Short answer is

1- Rear end housing is painted semi-gloss black with natural front surface where the 3rd member would attach.

2- Third member/carrier was painted with a red oxide colored epoxy primer prior to machining.

3- Pinion retainer painted with a red oxide colored epoxy primer prior to machining. Visible freshly machined surfaces on exterior

4- Pinion retainer bolts were a dark heat treated natural/bare finish

5- 3rd member retaining nuts were cad but a dull zinc may look similar. Copper washers installed under the buts on the lower half +  nuts

6- Yoke bare cast iron with fresh machined surfaces

7- Pinion seal shield/washer. Bare stamped steel

Found these using the search feature - similar in some details

Thank you Jeff. I am learning how to search the index. Still, I wasn't sure because so many of the information I found often dealt with Hi-Po's and the like rather than a base v260 V8.
Thanks Roger

No problem - though allot of members have K codes or later cars with 9" rear ends, six cylinders and other engines are also represented, discussed and posted here also.
