Where can I find pictures here of ...
« on: July 15, 2018, 10:50:35 PM »
Trying to locate some pictures of the correct engine compartment shade of black for use in the painting of my '65 San Jose car.  Searched the site and used the "search" features but didn't have any luck.  If someone could point me in the right direction I would appreciate it.  My car now has color (Rangoon Red) on most removeable parts, e.g., doors, hood, valences, trunk lid, etc., and we're getting close to needing the right shade of black for the engine compartment.  Thanks, Ron

It's semi-gloss black, maybe a bit on the flat side. You want a visible contrast between the engine compartment and brackets which were dipped and more on the glossy side or "semi-".

Jim--Thanks for that info.  When you refer to the "brackets," are you talking about the two that attach to the firewall on one end and the top of the shock towers on the other end?

Digital pictures may not communicate well what the finish looks like in person but if you want to take a look at the unrestored picture threads of 65 and 66 San Jose cars on the site. As Jim mentioned comparing other items painted differently - your example shock tower supports can help but also be aware that age, multiple heat cycles, washing, cleaning and such all go to produce what we see today. Not always exactly like what was day one.

I also invite you to look at the threads where members have discussed what others are using , by way of a currently available product, to paint their engine compartments. Some may be available/legal for your region some may not

Good luck with your research and choice
