original '66 289 fuel pump height
« on: July 10, 2018, 06:51:52 PM »
I removed the pump from my '66.  Although it isn't original, all the aftermarket ones I  find are taller. than the one I took off..the two tubular extensions the lines attach to are about an 1" longer than the ones on the pump I removed. so I'd like to know the height of the original pump, or to be more specific of the tubes themselves.  I don't want to have difficulty attaching the original style steel line (pump to carb)

Thanks.....

Where would you like the reference points to be measured from since the shape of aftermarkets can be very different?

Guess it could be made from the approx center of one fo the mounting bolt holes but it will only be close at best without building a fixture or something like that

A measurement from one of the mounting holes would be great.  I'll measure mine from that same point.

From a NOS one I had out on the work bench I measure from the bottom of one of the bolt holes and got about 5"  or 5 1/8" to about center of the bolt hole. Not real accurate but eye balling it

removed pump vs. new reproduction

Old pump tubes extend about 2" and the new pump 2 1/2"

Here is a  picture of a 289 fuelpump to be used as a example of the original style and design that is like what came on your car from the factory.

I knew neither was original, but I wanted to replace it with one with the correct dimensions so the steel line to the carb would connect properly.  Between the two, it appears the "current replacement" is definitely too tall.
