I have a '65 GT coupe that's had the driver's door swapped out.  I'd like to have a repro. data plate made for the car, but I'm not sure what the original DSO was.  I was able to find the original date of production--17S--by finding two other cars with close VIN numbers.

Now I'm just down to the DSO.  The car has been completely disassembled, so if there was ever a buildsheet in the car, it's long gone.  Any kind of dealer badge is also long gone.  And of course, no paperwork of any kind.  Is there any way to find the original DSO of the car?
Too much junk, too little time.

Not that I am aware of unless you have the original owners manual with the dealership stamp in there. Or track down the original owner if possible.

Here is a short list of possibilities that might help you determine. All or none may help in your specific situation

For cars missing their door/warranty tag?

- Buck tag - if the plant your car was built at used them
- Buildsheet -
- Owners card -
- Dealer - emblem, decal, license plate frame, key fob (of course there are cases where the ordering dealer was not the dealer the car was delivered to but this is unusual)
- Stickers/decals - often found on windshields. Can include state inspection, emission or even parking for schools or company. Old gas station service stickers also fall into this category.
- Engine equipment - open crankcase or closed can at least be used to eliminate a few or allot of DSO's
- Trash - Items found under carpet, seats, in glove box, console that may provide a city and state .
- Of course any paperwork found in or provided with the car can provide clues

Just some possibilities

Is there a chance that it can be found using the VIN through a GT Registry? Assuming it was registered.

Could have even been included in other surveys such as the  Mustang Production Guide efforts but they would only have it if a past owner had the door tag information and provided it. If it was a K code that would be another registry to check but has the same limitations
