...The date codes on the two air cleaner bases I have are 6E (1966 May) and 7A (1967 January).

FWIW, to help out ANY reader regardless of the OP's needs,  a 67 air cleaner lower housing is designed differently for the 4300 carburetor than it's predecessor 4100 version. (This should be true on all three 1967, 4300 versions I am aware of). Jim, you should notice the different-shaped bottoms on your 7A date stamped example when compared to your 6E stamped example. Perhaps you could post a picture of the different "bulge" you should see on your 67 version. My understanding is that the 4300 version fits on the 4100 version (66-older cars) but not the other way, the older does not fit the newer 67 4300 applications because it hits the 4300 carb up front near the filter area.

ALSO: FWIW, there are 3-67 version lower bases I know of outside any Hi-PO applications...
1.) No Nipples (front or rear) OPEN Emissions applications only (always without Thermactor)
2.) 1-Nipple (up front, w/90 degree elbow), CLOSED Emissions, No-Thermactor (sort of rare)
3.) 2-Nipples (one front, w/90 degree elbow + one straight nipple on rear for Thermactor)

Perhaps others know more about Hi-PO applications, I do not.

The same air cleaner was for 2100 carburetors as well. I looked at these two and although there are difference in stamping and "keying", they look interchangeable. It's raining (In California?), so I'll put off photos.

Really hoping somebody else caught on first, but I cannot help but spot an important omission of detail so far in this thread.

OK, I checked the two "known to be 67, Thermactor-type" ones I have on hand. Original to my car has NO DATE STAMP found. The other has 6E date code. Three (now 4 pictures, on edit) pictures uploaded below. 1st shows a 4300 core and the "bulge" required to clear the fuel filter. Last picture (added in edit) shows the clearence a 2100 or 4100 carb has in the 67 -vesion of the base (you should notice that no 'bulge' required for clearence).
2100 and 4100  carbs will fit ANY of the versions commonly grouped together as  "fits ALL 65 thru 67" air cleaner bases, this much is true but a 4300 carb REQUIRES a 67-version base. Perhaps Ford began stamping the lower housings earlier than the year model change-over (now, as of time of edit, three of the 6E date code for a 67-versions have been found), I do not know when Ford did the change-over but CLEARLY there is no front bulge in the earlier 65 thru 66 version to accommodate the 4300 fuel filter (perhaps somebody can look into this or start another thread). I do not have a full understanding of every version available for 65 and 66 but I am 100% sure that EVERY C-code and A-code in 1967 model year, regardless of number of emission-related nipples, ALL HAVE THE BULGE in the lower housing for the fuel filter clearence...thus making one 'base design' that works for both engine options.
