1964 1/2 assembly run question:
« on: March 09, 2018, 02:07:04 PM »
I'm curious if all the Mustangs produced from March through December of 1964 (Date codes C,D,E,F,G,H,J,K,L,M) were considered the "1964 1/2" Mustangs?  And if so, did they all come with the "signature" generator instead of alternator; unique hood-design elements, etc.?  Thanks, Ron

no. '64 1/2' production transformed in mid august 1964. lots of 64 1/2 parts continued on in production until they were depleted. depletion also varied by plant.

Thanks for that.  Now a follow-up:  when did Ford switch from generators to alternators in the early Mustangs at the San Jose plant?  Thanks, Ron...

You are correct as to body items. Engines and electrical assemblies changed for true 65 Mustangs. In general, the same applied to other years.

It's a lot easier to just go by the VIN

Dearborn, before 250001 is a generator car, after were alternators

San Jose, before 125001 is a generator car, after were alternators

It was a significant change, engine codes, interior codes and many other details changed, with some early details not being phased out until later during the '65 production year.

Should be some good reading here on the forum in old posts.
